INIT KA-AYO!!!

Syeeeeet!!!! It is so hot today that even the motion of lifting my right arm to brush my hair elicits little beads of perspiration to form on my forehead.....and this was right after I took the longest bath eeeevvvvveeeeerrrr as I didn't want to leave the shower. Good Grief!!! Summer in the islands may be loads of fun coz of all the town fiestas going on, as well as the lure of our beaches across the archipelago, but dang, it sure makes us consume so much water and electricity.

Summer Facts:

  1. We are more thirsty than hungry in the summer months. Taking big gulps of cold water ( or everyone's favorite Coca-cola) every 30 minutes or so fills up our bellies so much that there's really not so much room left for food. All of a sudden, drinking ice cold water gives everyone the ultimate HIGH.
  2. People are leaner in the summer months. Naturally. Everyone wants to look good in their swimwear while they bask and flirt under the Boracay/Palawan/Puerto Galera/Batangas/Subic sun. You don't even have to try hard to work up a sweat as even the tiniest movement you make already forms little beads of perspiration on your body. For example, just by typing this line, I can already feel the perspiration trickling down my nape.
Which brings me to Electricity. You can expect the Meralco Bill to shoot through the roof during the summer months. And why not? The refrigerator works double time keeping the water pitchers and Coke litros cold because every now and then, si Ate, si Kuya, si Syoti, si Syobe, si Manang, si Inday, si Mama, at si Papa, would open the ref to get something cold to drink. The poor ref doesn't stand a chance during this onslaught.

For the more affluent families, the air conditioners are humming close to 24 hours especially now that the kids are out of school. I remember one client of ours at the Bank who told me that when a power outage occurred in their (very posh indeed) village, he had to get the generator going on pronto as his kids will not be able to sleep without the aircon on. Oh diba, sarap nila, no?

Me, I get by during the summer months with my trusted Asahi electric fan. Obviously, the longer it is turned on, the air coming out of it will turn warm as the air coming through my bedroom window. But never mind. Its only hot in the summer anyway. Hehe!

I end this piece by wondering if its as hot in Batanes now. I'm thinking that with those strong winds and the proximity of the sea, summer in Batanes should be more forgiving that summer in the rest of the country.
