PURPOSE FROM HEAVEN

I just finished reading "the 5 people you meet in heaven" by Mitch Albom. It's a short novel, one that you can finish in a quarter of a day with minimal interruptions from the outside world. The story is about an 83 year old guy named Eddie who worked as head of maintenance in an amusement park called Ruby Pier. The story begins with Eddie meeting a fatal accident in one of the rides called Free Fall and his journey to finding answers to his life's questions begin.

I couldn't put the book down once I started reading it. I understood Eddie. He felt that he never did anything important while he was alive. So do I. I'm 36 years old and I still don't know why I was put on this earth. It can't be because of my work. A lot of other bankers can restructure loans like I do, even better. I'm not a mother nor a wife (but oh, how I want this), so it can't be to nurture a Christian family. I'm the friendly sort of person but so's my dad who's extremely friendlier.

So, what is my purpose in life? The Good Book says that our purpose in life is to please GOD. Huh? Whaaat? I had to be born first to please HIM? Can't I please HIM just the same by staying in heaven as a cherubim or a seraphim or a mystical flower or a heavenly melody or something like that?

A Sunday reflection in the newspaper said that "We were born to love and be loved, which is the very meaning of human life. Learning how to love will give us the greatest happiness as well as the deepest pain and through it all, allows us to come closer and closer to God." Wow...but that still doesn't answer my question. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?? WHY AM I HERE??

The Good Book goes further by saying that we must use our God-given talents or skills to please HIM.

Hmmm...talents....skills...See, I have talents and skills that others also have so except for the way I look, what sets me apart from all the others?

Anyway, back to Eddie. This was what Eddie learned on his way to heaven:

1) There are no random acts. We are all connected.
2) Sacrifice
3) Things that happen before you were born still affect you. People
who come before your time affect you as well. We move through places everyday that would never have been, if not for those who came before us.
4) Love lost is still love. Life has to end, Love doesnt.
5) You are where you're supposed to be.

You may want to read this book. I recommend it for the simple way it touches the heart. As for me, I will continue to live one day at a time, the best way I can, until I reach the end of the line. And then, I will look forward to meeting the 1st of the 5 people waiting for me in Heaven.
